What is an MOT?

The MOT test check that your car meets road safety and environmental standards. Every car in the UK is required to have an MOT test on the third anniversary of its registration or the anniversary of its last MOT, if it’s over 3 years old. MOT testing is a legal requirement to keep you and your passengers safer on the road.

How can I find out when my MOT is due?

You can find your cars MOT status online on the government website. Click here to access this website. We strongly advise having your car’s MOT test a week or two before its due date so that in the case of a failed MOT, the issue can be resolved and the car can be retested.

What happens if my car misses its MOT date?

If you miss your cars MOT date, you will not be able to drive the vehicle. The car will only be allowed to be driven if you have an MOT booked and you are driving to the test centre. Driving a car without a MOT certificate can land you an on-the-spot fine of £100 and can invalidate your insurance if you have an accident.

What happens if my car fails its MOT?

If your car fails its MOT, AP Autocare can identify the problem with your car that caused it to fail its MOT and quote you for a repair for the problem. If your car still has a valid MOT from last year, you will still be able to drive the vehicle until the MOT testing date expires. If your MOT testing date has already expired, your car will have to remain at the garage until the problem is resolved and it passes its MOT. It is possible that your car could be deemed unroadworthy, in this instance you will not be able to drive your car, even if it still has a valid MOT. In this instance, your car will not be able to leave AP Autocare until the problem is resolved and it passes its MOT.

What is a car diagnostics service?

Fed up of that pesky warning light showing up on your dashboard? Diagnostics services get to the bottom of that warning light on the dashboard and detect the problem that needs attention payed to. Typically, modern cars all have a selection of hidden computers that monitor and control aspects of your vehicle such as engine temperature and emissions.
